USSD app and new branches make life easy for clients in Tanzania

First steps into Uganda

First steps into Uganda

We believe in the potential of the African continent and its people, and have therefore taken our first steps into a new market:

Unifi Uganda is now officially part of our group. It was registered as a company in early 2020 and we’ve now concluded all of the necessary secretarial, tax and banking admin. This has laid the foundations for our business plan to be implemented, and we’ve appointed Michael Boden as Country Manager to help lead the way into this new territory. Michael is a qualified CA who has lived and studied in Australia for a number of years before returning to his native South Africa in 2019.

Sadly, the Covid-19 crisis has derailed our ambitious timeline to get Unifi Uganda operational, but in the meantime, Michael is working from the Unifi HQ in Stellenbosch and getting acquainted with Making Life Easy.

We’re excited to announce that Unifi loans are now available at Pep stores across Zambia.

Clients can also make their Unifi loan repayments while they shop at Pep, which is yet another way we’re making life easy. There are currently 25 Unifi branches across the country and they will remain a core part of our business, but the Pep partnership will significantly increase our footprint and bring our outstanding financial solutions to even more clients across Zambia.

Unified by our new brand identity

Unified by our new brand identity

Dunami, our short-term online loans offering in South Africa, and Unity Finance, our leading microfinance business in Zambia, have now officially rebranded to Unifi.

The Unifi brand is rooted in the vision we share across the Group, namely to redefine credit markets in the African countries where we operate and to make life easy for 1 million clients by 2025. It represents our conviction in the potential of the continent and its people. If you look closely at the new logo, you’ll see the shape of the African continent – this represents our focus on the continent and its markets and how we are unified by our purpose. The leaf stands for optimism: We see the potential for growth when it comes to both our business, our clients and our communities.

The rollout of the new brand identity to Unifi Zambia’s 25 branches is set to be completed by the end of September 2020, while Phase 1 of the new Unifi SA loans site went live on 3 August 2020. Phase 2 of the SA loans site will feature an enhanced user experience and is set to launch in the first quarter of 2021.
